6V92 TA engine
You are bound to be disappointed. I had a decision to make recently, buy a Cat
reman for 8 grand or a Dealers Remanufacturing in Minneapolis for 6 grand. The
engine in question is a 3208 250 hp. The parts guy at Badger Ford in Milwaukee
who in retrospect was probably getting kick backs from Dealers, convinced me to
take the economy model. 4k miles later, stuck on the side of Pennsy Turnpike I
didn't feel good about the saving. Moreover the fact that the remanufacturer
told me to pound sand didn't help. No problem, I popped for the 4 grand repair
and moved on. Dealers decided to save 20 dollars and reused a small fuel
injecter pump componet that failed. Total cost for the "reman" engine, 10
grand. It does seem to be a good runner, now that it is equipped with a real
Cat pump, and doesn't use much oil, but I'm not full confidence as I wonder
what else they left undone or cut corners on. Get a real Detroit with a
warrantee and keep the value of your Bird on track.
