I would guess you have a short in the wiring inside the dash. I base that
assumption on a couple of things:

First, the alternator switch on my coach, which should be the same as yours,
does not switch alternators. It only switches which one is being displayed.

Second, I had a number of problems where I would get glitches, most notably the
transmission degrading and going into do not shift mode, when various switches
were operated, most often the headlights.

I found that a wiring bundle (green wires) passed over a metal piece and had
chafed a number of them so that they could short to ground. Besides covering the
metal edge with some split rubber tubing, I wrapped each wire and then the
bundle in rubber electrical tape.
