Can I weld on my exhaust.
I weld on many cars and tractors and never disconnect the
battery, 'always intend too'. The added step cant hurt and it is a good practice, 'I forget to put the seat down also'. I welded a few things to my bus and ran a plasma cutter over some steel and only disconnected it from shore power to keep the ground path out of the shore line. I think the key is to grind a very good ground point for the welder to return the current (design a path of least resistance). I can see having the motorhome plugged into shore may prove an issue?? Remember that the weld will repair the result of a problem and a strong weld will pass the weak link to another stress area like a $$$ casted manifold. Some times it is best to fit a sleeve over a crack and U bolt it inplace (allows movement where the crack-failure proved movement is needed) or replace all the rubber hangers and or motormounts that were the cause of the resulted muffler system crack. The failure cause may also have been excessive heat or rust.
