3208 T'Stats - What's The Drill

Changing some hoses and the thermostats on this 225T this morning.

First, am I looking in the right place: the stat housing is just below
the air conditioning compressor, correct?

The housing is not like the book, of course! Has a rad hose fitting
piggy-backed on it, apparently. Two of the housing bolts look like
studs that run out through the hose fitting. The nuts on those studs
(?) loosen and then the studs spin without turning out.

I'm probably missing something here. Anyone?
