I struggled with this same problem.
The expert Mike H set me straight.

All that stuff is bolted to an assessory plate on our
300 hp turbo. We could easily reach the bolt/nuts from
inside the doghouse. There is also some confusion on
a one or two thermostat system. Our 88 has only one thermostat.
Just get dirty and crawl into the doghouse with a bright light.
