Headlights going on and off

I got into a rain storm the other day and had to turn on my lights. When in hi
beam I noticed the lights (head lights and dash lights) would go off for about
10 sec and then come back on for about 20 sec. This pattern continued untill I
went to low beam. If I put the lights on Low then they seem to stay on all the
time. I had the light go off for a few seconds in the middle of the night last
fall and that was not a good thing. Didn't notice a patern at that time. If
anyone has had this problem or knows how to fix it please let me know.
