Everyone needs a good virus protection program

A free program that I have found very
useful is Malwarebytes . It doesn’t
replace your virus scanner, but looks for “bad” things that you
have inadvertently loaded when visiting sites. I support 30+ personal
laptops at my wife’s C21 office and have had very good luck with
it. I personally scan our personal computers as part of our weekly maintenance-cleanup-backup
routine. I have even been able to recover laptops that would not boot
after being infected with one of those online scanner scams. It gets
updates almost daily. It is a program that you must manually update and
manually run. If you have serious problems boot your computer in safe
mode and then run it.

Another very useful free program is Ccleaner . It will keep your
computer running better by cleaning up the clutter. It works especially
well if you run your defrag program after running ccleaner.

What ever virus program you use update it
daily and keep it actively scanning. I have my preferences but I won’t
even start that argument. There are other programs that perform the
functions of the above programs but these have NEVER caused other problems.

Because of my wife’s business
website we pay for a service that blocks emails that are scams, phishing, or
contain virus. For my email account it blocks about 900 and passes about
70 a day. I periodically down load a sample of the blocked emails to a
test system and they are indeed “loaded”. There are a few
members of this site that get blocked often so keep your AV software current
and your firewall settings appropriate for where you are connected.

Good comment about AVG-free edition, Mario. And, perhaps,
I should have reworded my comment to say that the AVG
pay-foreditionsimply provides "even more protection and some
additional features." I have heard from several other friends that AVG free-edition
provides all they need. I guess with all them 24/7 hackers out there (and my
worry-wart tendency to feel vulnerable to them), I tend to go for as many
extras asI can, so in my mind, I guess I'm buying a little extra
peace-of-mind. But, in terms of not interfering with your programs and OS,
doesn't it seem that AVG-whatever-edition seems sooo much better than the
so-called "industry standards" that the stores stock, Norton and
McAffee?
