Bendix air pump replacement

My air brake pump on my 85 PT 40is getting weak and is leaking oil
badly. I took it to the local detroit diesel dealer to get a estimate
on replacing it. The first price I got was about three grand for a new
pump and about ten hours to replace at ninety dollars an hour. Hmmm?
Well that did'nt flush to well so I asked how about a rebuilt pump?
They quoted me Fifteen hundred for a Bendix rebuilt unit plus labor.To
make a long and expensive story short I purchased a Bendix rebuilt
pump from Fleetpride for two hundred ninety five dollars plus a six
hundred eighty five dollar core charge which was refunded when I
returned the old unit. It took me and my wife about four hours to
replace this unit . I just can't see how these people are making money
