Hi Larry,
The 2040SM is a 2 micron Racor filter. We use a 10 micron Racor filter, The primary Cat filter is a 2 micron. I think the 10 micron in blue 2040TM (this is from memory) So, you may want to check this out. The 2 micron will clog up faster. You can also try to drain some fuel from the Racor and the fuel tank occationally. Just keep driving and changing filters, this should clear things up. Rob,
SWBBR is progressing well. It will be great to meet up with all the 'Bird owners. Looks like there will be more than 40 'Birds attending. The planned participation is near 60 units, 'Birds and SOBs. Hi Bill,
Thanks for the info... I just ordered what was in there... The one that clogged is the brown top, thats why I ordered them and replaced it on the road with the same one... I will look into getting the 10 micron also... I noticed on top of the filter when I changed it, there was a little knock out for an emergency, will this do anything??? Filters
Larry,
Thanks, I learned something new today. I never noticed the emergency knock out plug before, I guess this by- passes the filter, when you are down on the side of the road. Hopeing the primary filter will do its' job and not clog until you are in a safe place. This may not be a good idea.?.? I have paid from about $8.00 for a Racor filter to the most recent $13.99 at West Marine. (I wanted another spare for a trip). At Napa it is a surprize when you open the box, it could be Racor, Wix, or a no name brand. Sometimes the Micron number is not known or listed in the parts book, But the price is always listed.?.?.?. The 13.99 filter from West Marine, states "Genuine Racor Parker", It is Blue and lists the 10 micron number, and it has the emergency knockout plug. My other spares do not have this knock-out plug. Since the subject of filters has come up, I would like to add some
fuel to that fire. Not all filters are of the same quality. In a past job, I had the opportunity to purchase several different brands of the same part number filter, and one of the salesmen said to cut them open(new) and compare. You would very surprised at the difference in manufacture. I now buy, no let me rephrase that, I now don't buy certain brand name filters, as their quality leaves alot to be desired. Many years ago, I had to go to court because a certain oil filter did not do it's job on a vehicle that was under warranty(the owner changed his own oil), and the engine locked up. The oil was still clean but the filter was dry. Meaning nothing passed through it. Steve Gureasko 90WBWL401/2 Jus Chillin Ponchatoula, La. |
