Memorial Day
Thanks Dick:
I hope. The kid is 9 years old with straight A's in school and I have started teaching him air navigation. I plan to put him in an airplane in a couple of years and teach him how to fly. He thinks he wants to land fighter jets on aircraft carriers. That would be the U.S. Navy. I hope he does but he is only 9. things can change. Good luck with the Grandson. I'm sure, with you as a grandpa; mentor; friend and example, he will eventually see the light. For many of us it is not a happy day because we lost compadres in the conflict. This Day really is about all the thousands of monuments across this great land. There has never been World peace and there never will be. We just need to be ready to whip the hell out of anyone who jacks with us. If I can get that thought across to my Step Grandson I will have done my job in life. While I was serving I had the priviledge of working on the YF-12A the predecessor of the SR-71 Blackbird under armed guard in the dead of night. Quite an experience for a young man. On the lighter side, I would do it again to protect our First Amendment Rights primarily so I can legally bitch about the price of diesel. Many of you were serving this great country before I was born. I am extremely grateful for your service and the sacrifices of each of you, as well as the sacrifices of those who did not make it home. I did not serve in the military. I wanted to be a pilot and they didn't take pilots with glasses. When I found out a few years back I could fly transports for the National Guard, I applied but was rejected due to my age. Again, enormous thanks to all of you and happy Memorial Day. Keep posting your service records; I enjoy learning more about you and reading your experiences. -Ryan '86 PT-40 8V92 Tri-Cities, WA On 5/28/07, Leroy Eckert wrote: > > > > > > > United States Air Force-1964-1968. > DaNiang, Viet Nam and Korat, Thailand 1967-1968. Memorial Day
Dan history has been one of my passions for over 50 years especially
war history. The number of deaths in Iraq is a sore point with me although I do agree with you. However the average american only parrots what they hear every day in the media how many americans were killed that day. And our soldiers have the very best body armor and equipment the world has ever seen in battle and that is why the deaths have been reduced to just over 3400! Good thing we are not fighting the american civil war now for what would the media do when the days death toll is reported as 20,000 americans killed and another 4000 horses and mules killed. I know the WW2 veterans like my father were called the "greatest generation" so what should we call those that were killed during our american Civil war when many of them went into battle bare foot and just after they took a piece of cloth and wrote their names on it, pinned it to the breast and then marched into battle knowing they would be killed? How quiickly we forget what this fantastic county is all about. tom warner vernon center,ny 1985 PT 40 At 12:19 PM 5/29/2007, you wrote: >32 Army Air Defense Command >Kaiserslautern, Germany >1972-1975 >Sadly it seems today america cares more about the next American idol >than how many soldiers are killed in Iraq. > >Dan Williams >81FC35 > ----- Original Message ----- > From: truitt44@... > To: WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com > Sent: Monday, May 28, 2007 12:51 PM > Subject: Re: Re: [WanderlodgeForum] Memorial Day > > > Fellows, > It would be interesting to see how many of the forum are Veterans > , years served, rank, war zones served in. > Ernie, By the way I spent two years at Ft.
