Check Valve problem

I had water leaking back into the air line in front of the purge
switch. It began leaking into the "basement" next to my Aquahot.
Bluebird says there is supposed to be a check valve in there to
prevent that but I did not see one. I ordered one from Bluebird (an
air check valve it turns out) and it appears water is leaking backward
through that valve and continues to leak, now out of the pressure
adjustment valve between the switch and the check valve which I
installed just in front of where it purges the waterline. Can water
leak backeward throiugh an air check valve? Anyone else ever have
this problem who can help?
