1982PT40 propane leak protocal
Tonight my wife smelled an odor and turned on the sensor below the refrig. It
started beeping and after a few more test and her smelling around, we feel it is the propane. Or could it be the hydrogen from the tubes behind the refrig we just discovered recently has some leak. All the electrical is shut down and main switch is Off. Windows open for circulation. She couldn't find any instructions to follow to resolve this. Are there propane companies that can be called to come out and search for the leak. Is it dangerous...not really identified as such in the manuel. I left a message at Bluebird. I am about 250 miles from the bus at this point in time, but was there this morning. Call Suburban Propane in Fresno 559 486-2770, 2874 S CHERRY AVE. I took our previous Bird to the Suburban Propane store in Placentia, CA. They checked the propane system for leaks. When will the coach come to Anaheim? Curt Sprenger 1987 PT38, Anaheim Hills, Calif. Jerry Legris wrote: > Tonight my wife smelled an odor and turned on the sensor below the > refrig. Hi Jerry:
Any LP leak is a potential explosive danger. The leak from the refer would smell more like amonia than ethyl mercapita (lp aditive) The leak could be coming form the valve on the back of the refer or from the secondary regulator there. Switch off the sensor under the refer. Then close the main valve at the tank proper. A mobile RV tech, one who has an electronic lp sniffer can locate the leak, but more importantly he will be able to do a pressure drop test to make sure, in fact, you have a leak. Since nobody else has answered, I'll take a stab at it. Propane is heavier than
air so it will sink to the low spot, probably flowing out the steps at the door if it can. Opening the windows will keep fresh air in the coach but it won't allow the propane to escape. you can purchase a gas sniffer which will locate a leak. They aren't cheap--probably around $200 (I bought mine on ebay) but it might be cheaper than a service call. Propane companies could probably recommend a service technician. An RV shop could also deal with the problem. I believe most RV frig's run on ammonia so a frig leak should smell like ammonia. Did you shut off the manual valve at the propane tank? kerry 82 FC 35 Denver --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, Jerry Legris > > Tonight my wife smelled an odor and turned on the sensor below the refrig. Find a propane supplier in your area. If you have a Ferrellgas in the
area use them. I was an employee with them for years and they are a very responsible company. They will check your system with a sniffer for free. The industry (Propane) does not want any accidents and police themselves well. Thanks Curt, Mike and Ralph for your responses. Curt especially for the Fresno
contact. We had the bird in Anaheim for almost a month, but don't have adquate storage here in the historical district by downtown. Our Frseno house has adequate parking and hookups for now. My wife will be attending the University there so we can finish working out the little bugs by the end of the semister. Hope to get some road time this coming year and some of the ralleys, they sound fun.
