Rebuild or Replace Alternator
My last trip I noticed my alternator was not charging. Had to start
generator up and connect our start / house batteries together to maintain the starting batteries. We put a volt meter on the alternator and got no charging reading. Any other tests that we should do? I researched the rest of the post and looks like one person had the unit rebuilt. What is best rebuild or replace? I have 8 house 6 volt house batteries and 2 starting battteries. I think I should increase my alternator sizing so the battery bank is charged faster while under engine power. Any recommendations? Rebuild or Replace Alternator
If you can increase the output rating by replacing it, I'd do that. I went
from a 130a to a 160a, and the cost of a new 160a alternator vs. rebuilding the old 130a was a difference of about a hundred bucks.
