headlights too dim

I have a 98 LXi, and my headlights are very dim, has anyone had this problem
and changed out there lights? Would love to put xenon, not sure if you can??

I'm not sure but I believe your headlights are the four smaller round
sealed beam units found on many cars, behind a clear plastic. Many
options exist for replacements from street legal to not. A search of
some racing parts websites will likely lead you to some good brand
names and information, or even ebay.

For my two cents however, If they are drastically dim, you may have a
wiring problem. Can you check voltage at the headlights? You will
hopefully see around 13volts with the engine or chargers running. If
not, there's something else going on and someone with a schematic may
be able to help out.

While you're in there, make sure the lights and inside of the plastic
cover are clean, it should be sealed to prevent dirt buildup.

Amanda I dont know what your skill level is but if you have and can use a
multimeter then check to see what voltage you have at the headlights. I
suspect that is your problem and not bad lights. I am not aware that the
later birds have this headlight problem but the ones from the 80's sure do.

you can go with hid lights just measure inside the light to make sure
you you have the clearance for the modules they are longer than a
regular bulb and also make sure you have room for the ballasts
something else to check make sure you disable day time running lights
if you have them, It is a fair bit of work to install but it can be
done on most vehicles
DO NOT SCRIMP on the money you spend buy a kit that is produced by one
company eg Bosch Hella or Osram never buy a kit that is put together
from parts from different supppliers like you see on ebay.
You will find that you only use them on low beam the time it takes to
warm and fire for high beam you usually have to turn them off for
oncoming traffic.
You might want to look at Silverstar halogen bulbs from Sylvania much
cheaper but a lot brighter than Standard Halogen

thanks so much for all your input, I will have my mechanic check the
voltage, clean the plastic, (actually I think we did that) and then look into
"high
end" hid lights. thank you all for your help, I really appreciate it.
