Tom,
On an 86 PT 40 the sight glass is right by the dryer--passenger side,
front overhead.

Dash AC / Sight glass
tom search out the sanden sight and see if you can get a match or call
Bluebird and see if they can tell you what compressor is on it. The
compressors were all add ons by bluebird and I would think it is a
Sanden Compressor

Dash AC / Sight glass
Tom,
In our unit the big black box contains the evaporator and the expansion
valve.The dryer is next to that black box. No sight glass on the dryer.

It is more then likely a CCI International compressor. Mine was. From the

Dash AC / Sight glass
The OEM dryer in the 89SP was located behind the passenger side front
overhead compartment and had a sight glass you could see with a mirror.
