I was in the US Army, 1988-1997. Five years enlisted (E5)with the 3rd Special
Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, NC; Officer Candidate School (aka: The
Benning School for Boys), branched Ordnance; finished as a CPT at 10th Mountain
Division, Fort Drum, NY.

As I get older and wiser, I now see how incredibly fortunate I was in that I did
not see combat at all. At the time, it frustrated me to no end, but I can live
my life without the demons to contend with. I count my blessings every day.

From one veteran to all others:

For whatever reason you served,
For whatever you did while serving;
Thank you for your service.

Hey, I don't run into many that served in Iran! I was an SP5 with the "TTT" -
Topo Training Team, stationed out of Tehran from October of '66 until discharge
in April of '69. Mostly in the field - went to every nook and cranny of Iran by
truck, fixed wing, helicopter, rail car, Gendarmarie speedboat, or pack horse.
Worked another year there after I got out before coming home.

All you real veterans, I salute you! I served in the Army, 1966-1972 as a CPT
JAG. Never went overseas and never saw combat (not the kind with bullets
anyway). I come from long line of military people: My two Great Grandfathers on
my father's side served in the 15th Alabama under the command of Col. William
Oates (later an Alabama governor and US senator and who served in Spanish
American War) during the "War of northern Agression". Both these brave soldiers
made three assaults at Little Roundtop, Gettysburg. One was wounded and went
home, the other was captured and later paroled to return to the 15th and fought
all the way to the surrender.

My grandfather on my mothers side fought in WWI and I had uncles who fought in
all branches during WWII. My Dad was a Seabee and landed at Guam and Okinawa.

Proudest of all is my son, Frank who just retired from the US Navy with three
tours in the Gulf.

I salute you all - brave men and women who put country first!

At 52 I really don't see myself as an old guy, till I crawl under the coach and
it sure gets tougher, US Army 75-80. My son, Jorel serving in the Marines, is
currently on his second deployment in Iraq and lost one of his friends while on
patrol a couple of weeks ago, pray for Mac's family.
