Kohler generator smokes alot!

Ernie, in my situation, I had a 1" exhaust from the genny muffler to
the outside of the coach..the exhaust would soot quite a spot if left
run for several hrs. Eric the genny guy explained to me to increase the
size of the exhaust pipe 1/2 in would increase flow exponentially. I am
sure there are some folks better qualified than I to explain this about
flow. I only increased mine to 1.75 I will go to 2" next time..exhaust
still "pops" a little bit while running and does still soot a bit but
much less than before..also going to pull injectors off and have them
checked out..

The proper starting procedure is to hold the "off" button down
for 30 seconds in warm weather and a minute in cold before
cranking. That heats things up prior to cranking.
Mine belches a decent cloud of black smoke when
first started, then a fair amount of smoke during the first
minute. After it's warmed up, I get a very slight,
continuous visible smoke from the 2 inch exhaust. It's just
enough smoke to tell it's running, but the smoke has
disappeared after it's moved about 3 feet.
It works fine, all maintenance is up to date and it doesn't
use any oil.
I guess that's one standard you can compare yours to, if
this helps. Mine has an oil bath air cleaner that is
now sparkling clean. If that gets plugged, it can cause
a lot of smoke and some oil consumption.
