Perkins Exaust Cooler

Has anyone ever removed the four bolts that hold the exaust to the
unit? We need to replace the exaust but am afraid that removing them
could open us up for another big problem. The threaded pipe used is so
rusty it is not possible to take it apart in peices like it should be.
Might have to cut it near the cooler and try and unthread the peice
that goes in to the cooler?

I have not done it ........YET. Mine is still in nice shape. However
if I were going to do it I would use the method that has always
worked for me on other connections like this.

Here is the procedure I use that has worked for me on some very tough
rusted connections like you describe.

1. Clean the connection with a wire brush (I use a circular one that
fits my high speed die grinder) and get as much rust off the fittings
where they go together. This gives the solvent ( PB blaster) the best
chance to penetrate the connections.

2. If you have a small propane torch (I find that my acetylene torch
is better) heat up the joint good (the outer connection) so that it
expands a little. Then spray the PB blaster on it at the same time
rapping it gently with a ball peen hammer. Don't get aggressive with
it, its not necessary.

Do this a few times and try to get the connection to come loose each
time but DON'T use a lot of force. Gently do it and it will come loose.

I also want new gen exhaust. Do you have phone #, part # and price? Are you
looking for standard replacement or one specifically designed to be more
quiet?
