Two or three oil rings?
I thought one of the problems with having a turbo installed an older
3208 engine that it only had two ring on the pistons. And the latter engines ran with three, I'm I right? And this can cause problems with only the two rings. Jon Rebel Bird 78 Wanderlodge |

Two or three oil rings?
The 3208Na, 3208Ta, and 3208ATAAC (Natural, Turbo, Air-To-Air-
Aftercooled) all were 2-ring engines. The 3208 was designed as a two- ring engine, works fine that way. The amount of friction, cylinder wear, all work fine with two rings. The third ring was offered as a retrofit starting in the early-mid '80s as an answer to competitors in the replacement-parts industry offering a 3-ring piston for the 3208, ... nothing more. - Jeff Miller in Holland, MI --- In WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com, "Jon" > > I thought one of the problems with having a turbo installed an older > 3208 engine that it only had two ring on the pistons. Them 3 rings might have been an effort to stop the serious fog job from a cold
start that "throwaways" were so famous for. Kinda hurt diesel image, like 5.7 GMs. Mike Hohnstein ----- Original Message ----- From: Jeff Miller To: WanderlodgeForum@yahoogroups.com Sent: Sunday, February 19, 2006 3:43 PM Subject: [WanderlodgeForum] Re: Two or three oil rings?
