Importing a bus from Canada
Anyone have any experience with bringing a bus registered in Canada back into the US? The bus is newer than 2002.

RE: Importing a bus from Canada
David, I do not know if being a 2002 or newer makes any difference , but we brought in our 2000 and experienced only hassle at the boarder. After a few hours of waiting for the boarder guards to find DOT plates we were on our way . It would not have taken so long but they refused to allow us to assist , going so far as pulling there gun on me when I walked toward the coach without a escort lol. as to being able to register the bus in the U.S. with only a registration and bill of sale , we had no issues at all.

RE: Importing a bus from Canada
Thanks Al, I appreciate your help.
It's registered as a 2004, 2003 chassis, so it is a "U.S. Certified" vehicle, plus I have a letter from Prevost saying so. From what I can tell two forms need to be filled out, an EPA importation declaration form (3520-1) and an NHTSA Declaration form (HS-7), then I'll need a 'Bill of Sale' and the 'Canadian Registration'. The bus has manufacturer-equipped EPA labels on the engine, in english, certifying it to be a U.S. Version, and on the chassis it has manufacturer-equipped labels certifying FMVSS compliance. I believe I'm actually re-importing a U.S. Certified vehicle, which should simplify form HS-7. (Imported to the states, converted into a motorhome by a U.S. converter, sold and registered in the states, then in 2007 imported and registered in Canada). Seems simple enough! david brady, '02 Wanderlodge LXi 'Smokey' (Sold), '04 Prevost H3 Vantare 'SpongeBob' "I don't like being wrong, but I really hate being right" |

I put some wood floors in an 06 Marathon last summer. The entry door must have weighed 1000 pounds. It had those 365 tires, also. Nice coach

Thanks Jim, I appreciate it. Ernie, they are stout. The one I'm considering also has the 365 steer and tag axle tires. I'll fly on Tuesday to see it in person and to take pics. Stay tuned! Pics to come.

RE: Importing a bus from Canada
Hi Hish,
We don't have any immediate travel plans so I'll probably drive it home at some later date. The current owner is agreeable with storing it in his 5000 sq ft building, heated of course. david brady, '02 Wanderlodge LXi 'Smokey' (Sold), '04 Prevost H3 Vantare 'SpongeBob' "I don't like being wrong, but I really hate being right" |
