Oil pressure gauge

Oil pressure gauge
While driving north the last couple days, my oil pressure gauge has
fluctuated from 30 pounds to the "normal" 60 while driving. I wonder if
the sending unit is starting to go south- or the gauge?

I hit the send too quick,
an intermittent gage needle movement will
act like your symptom.

Oil pressure gauge
Ernie: At one time I had a direct reading guage on that rig. Look
just above the pan on the curb side. That will at least tell you if
you have good oil pressure.

Ernie, I agree with what Bill is saying. Check for corrosion/loose wires at both ends. I have seen both the sending unit and the gauge cause this problem. With the age of your bus it could be either. Ernie, Check and make sure the oil level is as it should be. I know
you alrady did this but stranger things have happened. Look for loose
or coroded connections. If the sending unit goes out it is usually
dead, not intermitent. MIke McMahan

Good point Mike, bet it is the gauge and not the sender???? Or a
wire grounding out on the way????? But you should not rule out
oilpressure reading being correct!!! Ernie has a Detroit6V92

The 3208Cats have a major oil pressure isssue that added a interval
replacement of the oil screen pickup tube in the pan. I had a 1985
3208T lose the oil pickup and droped it in the pan. The entire pipe
cracked off at the mounting because the screen cantilevers off the
pipe and constant vibration proved a crack. Cat Parts Clerk told me
it is a common issue and the pickup was in stock.

Oil pressure gauge


Mike, my engine's "comfort" range is operating about 4 quarts low. The oil level holds pretty steady, there. This will be a spring time project upon my arrival in Livingston. Thanks
