Not Much Luck Buying Tires for our WL in San Antonio, TX :(
Yes I seem to recall something like you need 9.25" rims or something like
that. Mine came with 315s on it from a previous owner. It orginally had 12s
but somewhere all the way 315s were exchanged. I don't know if the rims were
changed or not. I though 12s would fit on 9" rims

Yes I seem to recall something like you need 9.25" rims or something like
that. Mine came with 315s on it from a previous owner. It orginally had 12s
but somewhere all the way 315s were exchanged. I don't know if the rims were
changed or not. I though 12s would fit on 9" rims

I just put on 8 new Firestone FS400's on my WB40, so far so good,
not enough miles to talk about yet. I replaced some pretty worn out
and over extended Michelins. I paid $3999 for 8, mounted, balanced,
FET, etc.

I can tell you based on my experence that 315's have a space issue
with the stock 8.5" rims and spacing that came on my coach. I just
replaced the Michelins with Firestones, the spacing between the
drive axles is just about an inch when the bus is aired up and
running 105 PSI in he drive tires. If I dump the tag the tires
touch. As it turns out, this did not change from the Michelins to
the Firestones, they both appear to have the same sidewall flex.

So be careful if you are looking to go from 12R's to 315's as they
are about 1" wider and cause spacing issues in the drive tires.

Actually. both the Michelins and Firestones state you can use 315's on
8.5" rims. The issue really is, does the rim have enough offset to
allow the correct tire spacing between duals.

And I can say that the ones that came on my coach do not as they are
too close for my comfort. But the coach ran on 315's for ten years
before I got it, with 15K a year avg and never had a tire failure.
The tires do not touch when axles are aired up, just really close.
They do touch when the tag is down.

The big concern is, since the spacing is so close, it is possible to
pickup a small stone and take out both tires.

Woops, should have said that Firestones 315/80R22.5 can be mounted
on 8.25" depending on their load range. Michelin does not specify
load range, just that they can be mounted on 8.25" rims (or at least
the old brocheure for the XZA's I have states that).

Firestone states that if you have a 315/80R22.5 load range L (20
ply - max speed 55 MPH) it must be mounted on a 9" rim.

I used the FS400 315/80R22.5 rated for max speed 75MPH which are the
18 ply load range J, which can be mounted on 8.25" rims. But I
believe the real issue is still rim offset, which I have not been
able to find info on.

So when the tag and drive axles air bags are aired up things are OK,
when the tag air bag is dumped the drive tires touch.

Howdy, Chuck.
Thanks for the reply. I wonder if your friend in Graham bought those
Sumitomos in San Antonio? Because about 3-4 weeks ago, Sumitomo tires
were available at one of the dealers Jack talked to. BUT Jack missed out
on those.
