wb40 rubber wheel guards

wb40 rubber wheel guards
dose anyone know where I can get new rubber wheel guards I'm looking to redo
mine but I thought it would be easy to just buy them
??? anyone have any pointers on how to strip the paint off???

Jamie,

When we had our '90 PT40, the wheel trims were cracked and the paint was so
brittle they got worse by just touching them. I marked the stripes on each one
and removed them. My local body shop repainted them to match the original paint
stripes but used a paint and clearcoat that would not crack. They actually
brought them back rolled up! They were a PITA to put back on but came out
perfect. If your local body shop can't paint them with a flex paint, let me know
and I will put you in touch with the guy who did mine.

Interesting, I didn't know that. One reason I didn't is because apparently
there's a finite life to the flexibility - lots of cracks and some chips now (I
have the 90 Rich is talking about).

Overall they still look fairly good. I haven't compared them with others of
similar age, but I will the next rally.

Thank you for your responce I was thinking of painting them with one color but I
would rather have it done with the lines
So now that you havwe done that I will take them to a shop and see what the cost
will be

Don, I believe that the owner between you and me had the coach repainted. The
flexibility would have been lost even if they just re-clear coated the rubber.
When BB (and most re-painters) painted these coaches they used the same paint on
the rubber as they did on the metal. That paint is not the same as that used for
rubber or flexible objects. I'm sure it may become less flexible over time (I
did!) but the paint was already cracked on the wheels when I bought that coach
with 6000 miles and one year old. The repaint lasted and was perfect when I sold
it in 2001.

FWIW several years ago I painted a motorcycle with paint from N.A.P.A. they did paint matching and also had a flex agent to add to the paint to prevent cracking on the soft parts.
