Al, if you come to Montana and you can either go south from Livingston or
Bozeman. Both roads are great with outstanding scenery. Ernie- was in wwest
yellowstone last week

Hi David When your engine temp.reach 215 F on a 8V92 it was already a
done deal your engine was going to be toast. This is not my opinion it's Detroit
diesel they told me not to let my engine water temp.get over 110 F .Five years
ago i had to replace my raditor core $1,800 for a new core.
Bob Loomas 85 PT 36

Bob; yes it was Alt. rt 14 ,we were up about 8 miles into the climb when the
engine started blowing anti-freeze out the raditor cap. the odd thing my
water temp gauge never got over 220 F the whole time . I have the old
raditor core in my pickup bed ,I's amazing it didn't over heat sooner. You
just touch the fins and they crumble into dust, this goes down two and three
inches into the core. I took it to my raditor repair shop and he said it's
just junk and there is no repair. He said it was from the acids from the
road that rotted the core.

All Detroits, or just the Series 60? Any idea about the 8V92? My normal op
temp is around 190, and when it gets to 200 (seldom happens) I turn on the
Fan Overide switch. That cools it down pretty fast (down to 170 or so in just
a few minutes).

This confirms what Detroit Diesel told me about
the Series 60. They said, "keep the temperature
below 210 deg F, and anything over 220 deg F.
will cause engine damage".

All electronic controlled Detroits are equipped with a high
temperature shut-off. What temperature is it set for? Anyone know?

One of the problems with that statement is: All temperature guages
are accurate plus the fact that with a 190 degree thermostat, it is
easy to get to 200 degrees while cycling the thermostat and climbing
a steep grade. When my unit is opening and closing, my guage moves
from as low as 180 degrees to 200 degrees. This is mostly when I
get on the road after the coach has been sitting for a while.

Bob. The raditor got hot because the cooling fins were pluged with dirt and
leaves and the fins themself were rotted from vroad acids and would crumble
on touch. Dave 1991 WLPT 40

Al. We just came thou the east gate, It's not shut down it has one way
traciffic running with a pilot car expect about a 25 min. delay at most .The
second time I tried to go to Yellowstone we went thur Dayton Wy. It's exit

.It's not a rough as hwy 16. The other plus is that you can stay at Cody Wy.
and there is a lots of things to see and do. You need at least 2 days at the
Windchester museum ,It's a great palce to visit,You can dry camp on your way
to Yellowstone from Cody .Just beware there is wild bears in that
country.Dave 1991 WLPT 40
